Letter from the President

Dear Prospective Member:

Thank you for considering membership in the Milne House Garden Club. The attached application package contains information on the application process, a list of required and optional activities and brief information about the Club. Our Membership Director, Ingrid Smith, can answer any questions you may have and help you complete the application form.

To give you a flavour of what you can expect when you join the Garden Club, we asked members what they like most about the Club and what they have gained personally from membership. Their comments repeatedly echoed the following:

  • Satisfaction with Board members who are committed and care about the future of the club

Membership Benefits

As a member of Milne House Garden Club, you also become a member of Toronto Botanical Garden, enjoying the following benefits.

Milne House

  • General meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of the month except in the months of July, August and December. The meeting commences at 10 am with the business portion, followed by a short break to socialize. At 11 am we have a speaker on various topics including floral design, horticulture and the environment. At our meetings in June and November we have a Members’ lunch. During the months of February, April, September and October we hold In-House flower shows which can be viewed after the meeting.
  • In the month of May we hold our Annual Flower Show which is open to the public during the afternoon. At the June meeting (our Annual General Meeting) the Annual Rose and Peony Show is held.
  • Workshops are held 7 times a year on topics relating to upcoming flower shows.
  • Our Annual Fundraiser to support The Children’s Programme at the TBG, “Christmas with Milne House” is held the first Tuesday in December. This is a workshop with a Christmas inspired theme (seasonal wreaths, centrepieces etc.) Crafts, Bake table and other vendors.
  • Garden Tours and Bus Trips
  • Photo contest
  • Craft group
  • Newsletter is sent out 6 times a year by email or regular mail if you do not have email.
  • Demonstration meetings via zoom on floral design and horticulture
  • 10% members discount at various garden centres

Toronto Botanical Gardens

  • Free parking at Toronto Botanical Garden
  • Subscription to Trellis Magazine
  • Discount at Garden Shop, and for Toronto Botanical Garden Programs
  • Use of the Weston Family Library with a collection of over 10,000 books and periodicals, art displays

Membership Application

This application form is for new members only. If you are an existing member looking to pay your renewal fees, please complete the Renewal Membership Application form.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Complete the New Membership online application form.
  2. You will receive an email with instructions for how to pay your annual fees.

ANNUAL FEES: $135

Fees include the following costs:

  • $75 Milne House Garden Club – July-June inclusively
  • $60 Toronto Botanical Gardens – Jan-Dec inclusively (waived if you are already a member of the TBG)

AN ACTIVE MEMBER IS REQUIRED TO:

  • Pay the Annual Fee by July1st.
  • Work actively on a committee and participate in Club activities to be discussed with Membership Director at time of application.
  • Attend at least four (4) meetings a year to be an Active member in “Good Standing” and be entitled to vote. Notification of non attendance should be given to Membership Director.

A NEW MEMBER IS ALSO REQUIRED TO:

  • Take a minimum of one (1) workshop in their first year. 1st workshop is free.
  • Enter at least one (1) in-house competition in either Design or Horticulture.
  • When joining the club, if you do not know anyone in the club, someone will be assigned to you to help you get oriented and answer any questions you may have.

Participants involved in any activities offered by Milne House Garden Club (MHGC) may be photographed or videotaped during the event they are attending or participating in. Participants and/or their floral design or photographic submissions/entries in activities offered by MHGC may be photographed or videotaped. When applying for membership, you will be required to consent to the use of these photographs and/or videos without compensation on the MHGC website or any editorial, promotional or advertising material produced and/or published by MHGC.

Renewal Application

This application form is for renewing members only. If you are applying to become a new member, please complete the New Membership Application form.
