Our Flower Shows and Floral Design

Our club hosts Six Flower Shows a year with numerous workshops in horticulture and floral design for your education and enjoyment.
Our goal is to stimulate interest in horticulture and creative expression through floral design. All levels of experience are welcome as we provide opportunities with workshops and knowledgeable speakers to guide us along. We offer various “how-to-workshops” in:

  • Floral Design Techniques (Beginners & Experienced)
  • House Plant Care with our own “Plant Doctor”
  • Perennial Growth Habits
  • Flower Shows Practices
  • Design / Horticulture competitions
  • Photo Competitions
  • Floral Demos (easy and fun everyday designs)

Our members are encouraged to participate and to showcase their gardening skills and/or floral designs talents.  If you are a beginner, this is the place to start.  We welcome you and provide education to all levels.  We have helpers available to assist you and help you excel in your desired area.  We offer workshops in floral design techniques and horticulture interests.    The most important objective is to have fun with flowers with a friendly cohesive group.

In our flower shows, we use judges that are accredited by:

  • The Garden Clubs of Ontario (GCO)
  • Ontario Horticulture Association (OHA)
  • The Canadian Rose Society (CRS)

We have certified GCO, OHA and CRS Judges in our club, who are all willing to help teach and share their many years of training and experience. We follow flower show guidelines found in the Milne House Yearbook which you will receive as part of your membership. The Ontario Judging and Exhibiting Standards for Horticulture and Floral Design (OJES) Second Edition 2019 booklet can be purchased for $10.00 All garden clubs and horticulture societies in Ontario use this publication.

Our Design Committee consists of 12 members working together to write show schedules.  We work closely with our Horticulture Committee to bring you interesting topics to learn from.

No experience is necessary to be on these committees.  We hope to hear from you soon!
